Governor And Mayor: Computer Company To Move Facility & Jobs To Lower Manhattan
Computer Generated Solutions to Receive Job Creation and Retention Program Grant
NEW YORK, NY - October 18, 2004 - Governor George E. Pataki and Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg today announced that Computer Generated Solutions Inc., will move up to 225 jobs from midtown to Lower Manhattan to consolidate its operations downtown. While the company currently has 11 jobs at a downtown site, the move will result in the creation of up to 150 new jobs in Lower Manhattan. Computer Generated Solutions will invest $2.5 million to consolidate its two current facilities into a new headquarters based at 3 World Financial Center.
"Computer Generated Solutions' decision to remain in New York and locate its expanded headquarters in Lower Manhattan is solid evidence of the positive climate we're helping to create for businesses that want to grow and prosper downtown," said Governor Pataki. "Everyday we're working with companies like Computer Generated Solutions to create new jobs and foster economic growth in Lower Manhattan."
"This is one more step forward in the rebuilding of Lower Manhattan and the recovery of New York City's economy," said Mayor Bloomberg. "Computer Generated Solutions' commitment to Lower Manhattan is undeniable testimony to what the City and State are achieving collaboratively with the private sector, and I look forward to many more announcements like this in the near future."
"Computer Generated Solutions has been headquartered in New York City for over 20 years," comments Phil Friedman, President and CEO. "We looked at several alternatives around Manhattan and in New Jersey, and in the end, felt the decision to stay in New York City was the right choice for both our business and our employees. We appreciate the support that Governor Pataki and the City of New York offers businesses like ours and plan to stay in New York for many years to come."
Computer Generated Solutions Inc., established in 1984 with its headquarters in New York City, a privately held company, is a leading provider of system integration, software, training, and managed services to businesses and government agencies worldwide. The company currently employs 236 employees in New York City. The company also has employees at an IBM facility in Fishkill, New York, as well as maintains workers at various out-of-state and international locations.
"Governor Pataki has created a business environment that has helped spur companies like Computer Generated Solutions to make a further investment in New York," said Charles A. Gargano, chairman of Empire State Development. "Today's announcement is proof that our efforts are delivering positive results throughout New York State."
"This is great news for the business community of Lower Manhattan," said EDC President Andrew M. Alper. "Since it was established following September 11, the JCRP grant program has played a pivitol role in keeping or bringing 75 firms to Lower Manhattan. I thank Phil Friedman and the people of Computer Generated Solutions for their support of New York City and Lower Manhattan."
The new facility will be approximately 40,000-square-feet and house the company's existing operations. The company anticipates continued growth over the next three years. Computer Generated Solutions looked at various locations before deciding on the downtown site.
In consideration of the company's commitment to New York State, Computer Generated Solutions Inc., is eligible to apply to Empire State Development for a $2 million Job Creation and Retention Program grant for the relocation of 225 midtown jobs to the World Financial Center, along with the retention of 11 downtown jobs, and the creation of 150 new jobs within the next three years.
The Job Creation and Retention Grant Program (JCRP) targets businesses in the area of Lower Manhattan, south of Canal Street, with over 200 full-time employees that require assistance in maintaining, establishing or resuming a presence in Lower Manhattan or elsewhere in New York City. The program also aims to attract companies willing to commit to relocate and/or create 200 or more jobs in Lower Manhattan.
Currently, 75 firms have accepted Job Creation and Retention Grants since Sept. 11 to retain and create more than 75,000 jobs in New York City. Ten of those firms, including Computer Generated Solutions, are new to Lower Manhattan and represent over 6,600 relocated and created jobs.
